Larry Hopkins – P.E.

Chief Technology Officer

Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a passion for innovation and solving tough engineering challenges. At XNRGY, I’m excited to help shape the future of climate systems and push the boundaries of what’s possible in HVAC.

Larry has more than 30 years experience in the HVAC industry. He has held the positions of VP of Engineering at PACE Co., President of Cleanpak International, Vice President of Engineering at Huntair and co-founder and VP of Research and Development at Basx Solutions.

In each business Larry led product development efforts in several key areas including fan design, development of the Fanwall or Fan Array Technology, low-loss fan backdraft damper, fan-balancing and isolaton systems and active control of fan noise. Larry was the inventor of the Fanwall and other products used in the HVAC industry.

Some of those patents include:

  • Inlet air flow conditioning for centrifugal fans
  • Fan array fan section in air-handling systems
  • Fan array control system
  • Methods and systems for active sound attenuation in an air handling unit x2
  • Back draft damper x2
  • Fan array vibration control system and method

Larry‘s industry involvement has also extended to several ASHRAE and AMCA subcommittee appointments. Through the latter organization, he contributed significantly to the development of fan array testing and certification standards in the early 2010s. Larry is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Fan 2021 International Conference on Fan Noise, Aerodynamics, Applications and Systems.

Larry has worked on many data center and cleanroom projects for customers such as Apple Computer, Intel, Motorola, Microsoft and Equinix. He is also a member in several sub-committees of AHSREA and AMCA. In 2016, Larry co-founded and became the President of OnFlow Systems in Oregon.

He joined Montreal’s XNRGY Climate Systems, in 2020, as their Chief Technology Officer, and will be splitting his time between Oregon and Montreal. The entire XNRGY team looks forward to tapping into Larry’s vast expertise in fan and damper development and to drawing inspiration from his vision for the company’s success. His ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness will be an undeniable asset as XNRGY continues to grow and strengthen its position in the North American market.
